Legion Examples

Walkthrough

The following screenshots show the progress through a complete game of Legion.

Gareth and Tristram are playing a game of Legion with each other.

The iPad keyboard appears when the name fields for each player is touched.

The players enter their names.

Tristram, as player 1, presses the NEXT button to start the game.

Tiles in play are marked with a purple star.

Six tiles are played.

The first line made must cover the centre square.

The tile at the right of the line has been placed on a 3x scoring square.

Its value is 7, as it has 7 dashes.

This tile scores 3x7, or 21. The rest of the tiles in the line score 1 each. The total score for the line is 26.

As the move is completed, Tristram presses the PLAY button.

The score is calculated automatically.

The points for each tile flash up.

It is now Gareth's turn

Tiles that have been played show a grey star.

Gareth adds to the line already on the board.

The tile on the left has been placed on a 3x scoring square, its value is 7 so it scores, 21. The other tiles just played score 1 each, as they are on blank squares.

The other tiles that were already on the board score 1 each.

Gareth;s score is calculated

It is Tristram's turn again.

Gareth passes him the iPad.

Gareth's score of 29 is shown in the LAST TO SCORE row.

Tristram plays a fairly weak move. He could have scored more with other possible moves.

His score is calculated

It is Gareth's turn...

and he places three tiles in the bottom rows

This move scores for two lines - the one just played and the one added to.

The tile that joins the two lines scores for each line.

Tristram manages to play all seven of his tiles.

This scores an additional 25 bonus points.

This line scores 62.

Gareth play down the right-hand column...

and scores 21

It is Tristram's turn.

He has played tiles on two scoring squares and added to a line that was already on the board...

and scores 32.

Gareth plays a blinding move on in the left rank.

With the 25 bonus points, he scores a worthy 71.

Confused and with difficult tiles, Tristram plays an illegal move.

The tile at the left of his line does not match the tile underneath.

An error message appears.

He presses the RESET buttion...

and the tiles are returned to the rack.

It is still Tristram's turn.

This time, paying attention, he moves the tiles around in the rack to work out a move before playing it.

This helps him to work out a high scoring 72 point move along the top rank.

The tile at the left of this libne (0122) scores 5x its value (which is five) for the new horzontal line and for the vertical line that it has added to.

The total for the move is 74 points

It is Gareth's turn.

He presses the SKIP button to pass, as he has to make a call and cannot easily spot a decent move.

Tristram is delighted.

The board is filling up, there are not so many places to go.

The line played scores 27 points, which is fairly decent for this stage of the game.

Gareth plays, but it is an illegal move.

The warning is displayed

Then, he spots a move in the top right corner...

and scores a hefty 41 points

Both players are trying to put tiles on the scoring squares...

but there are only a few scoring squares left, and these squares all have tiles bordering them.

This makes them more difficult to play onto. Only a few tiles from the whole Legion set will have sides that match...

and some of these tiles might already have been played.

Tristram manages to play onto a 3x square, as part of two line

He scores 35

At this stage of the game, it becomes increasingly harder to find places to go..

but there are still some there.

Gareth scores 10

Tristram fights back with 14

and Gareth replies by playing two tiles in the bottom rank.

He scores 11

Its really getting tight now.

Tristram has just been dealt a tile that fits onto a scoring square.

He scores 22.

It's one tile at a time now

Gareth scores 5

A tile completes the line in the top rank

and Tristram scores 9

Gareth manages to play 2 tiles...

and scores 12, from one vertical and two horizontal lines.

Tristram places a tile that he has just been dealt on a scoring square again

scoring 17 points.

Gareth plays a single tile, filling the bottom line

one tile from Tristram

scores 9

and so with Gareth...

who also scores 9 by completing a line.

Tristram cannot move.

He presses the SKIP button and passes to Gareth

Gareth has only six tiles in his rack.

There are no tiles left to deal out.

Gareth cannot move either and he too presses the SKIP button.

This is the end of the game and Tristram has won.

This set of best of five games is now level, at two all.

The match continues.

Gareth presses the OK button to clear the end message screen...

then clicks the EXIT button

to return to the Game Start screen...

ready for the Set decider
